Custom Dog Collars - Which material should I choose?
Which material should you choose when you personalize your dog collar?
There are lots of decisions to make before hitting the "checkout" button on your custom dog collar. This decision is typically not as "big" as what to put on your custom dog id tag, because you likely aren't including nearly as much information on the dog collar, but an important decision to make up front is "which material will work best for my dog"?
Should you go for embroidered dog collars or opt for having the name printed directly on the collar using a permanent sublimation method?
Embroidery vs. Printing: Which is Best?
Aside from just a general preference for the way it looks, this is sometimes a durability question.
Embroidered Dog Collars
All Hot Dog Collars are embroidered on an industrial machine using tight stitches and the team that does this work is extremely experienced and great at their job!
These collars hold up great, but if your furry friend is a heavy-duty scratcher, you may want to consider the printed option. While embroidery is sturdy, it can be susceptible to damage from persistent scratching if your dog's nails are constantly encountering the threads in the embroidery.
Printed Dog Collars
Printed Dog Collars don't have the same texture or 3D look that embroidery gives, but you can do a lot with colors and shapes and fonts.
As mentioned above, if your dog is a dedicated neck scratcher or has allergies that cause him or her to constantly scratch at their neck, you will be better off with the printing method.
When we say we are "printing" your custom dog collar, what we mean is we use a professional sublimation setup with special ink that bonds to the collar material and cannot be scratched off. It also doesn't fade or lighten over time.
Background Color: Solid or Patterned?
When selecting a background color for your custom dog collar, it's wise to choose a solid color.
While we might love the look of the printed pattern on the collar, consider how much text you will be adding or what the collar might look like from a distance to decide if that is the right choice.
Patterned backgrounds can be busy and may make the personalization difficult to see. Opting for a solid background ensures that your dog's name stands out clearly.
Less is More: Keep it Simple
Remember, when it comes to personalizing your dog's collar, less is more. The more characters you add, the harder it may be to read. Keep the customization simple and concise for optimal visibility.
Consider the Thickness
The thickness or width of the collar will also play a role in how easily you can read the text, whether it is embroidered or printed. Wider dog collars are by far easier to read and we offer collars in 3/8" (toy width), 3/4", 1", and 2" wide.
Can you choose?
By taking these factors into consideration, you can select the perfect material for your custom dog collar. Whether you opt for durable embroidery or vibrant printing, ensuring that your furry friend's name is clearly displayed is key. Choose wisely and create a personalized collar that both you and your dog will love!
